Whoever
coined the phrase don’t get mad, get
even, was onto something, in my humble opinion. I like nothing better than
a revenge story. How about you?
My novel Silver Lining was inspired by the
British tv series, Hustle. It features a quartet of conmen with a collective
conscience. They select marks who deserves to be hit where it hurts—i.e. in his
pocket—and usually recompense people who’ve been done down by therm, retaining a
good portion of their ill-gotten gains for their own retirement funds, naturally. They’re
not that altruistic!
In Silver Lining my heroine has just been
released from prison, having served time for a crime she did commit. She worked as a trader on the London stockmarket and
was persuaded by her boss, who was going to leave his wife for her—yeah, I
know!—that they needed to feather their own nest in order to be able to ride
off into the sunset and live happily ever after. Needless to say, when the
brown stuff hit the fan, the boss denied all knowledge. He’d been careful to
keep his name out of everything and Lauren was left to take the wrap.
Lauren survives her time inside by plotting
her revenge against the guy who set her up. Never underestimate the power of a
woman scorned! American journalist, Nate Black, is writing a book about women
who commit out-of-character crimes and when more dead bodies turn up, again
implicating Lauren, he finally breaks through her defensive shell and she agrees to accept his help. He knows her
attempts at revenge won’t get close to a man as powerful as Max and suggests an
alternative.
But Max has
friends in high places and won’t go down without a fight, even supposing his
greed persuades him to fall for Lauren and Nate’s con in the first place.
Matters spiral out of Lauren’s control, as does her feelings for Nate. Who will
come out on top and, more to the point, what’s happened to the millions that
Lauren was persuaded by her rat-fink of a lover to steal?

Congrats on your new release, Wendy. I like the idea of someone getting revenge, especially someone who was wronged.
I love the conmen "collective conscience" angle. Your post made me think of The Sting or Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Congratulations on the new release!
Oh, I *love* a good revenge story, and yours seems quite intriguing, Wendy.
Thanks, ladies. This one came out a while ago now but is still one of my favourites.
I LOVE that she actually did commit the crime. I so prefer to read—and write—about very flawed people. I'm ordering this one!
Thanks so much, Ana x
