Puppy Love

You know how sometimes life gets so crazy and you forget things? Well, that was me with this blog post. With a couple of days to think of a topic, I really had no clue what to write about. The answer came with a little Yorkie Terrier named Chocolate, because she reminded me about love.

Chocolate lives a block away from me and most every day when I take my pooches for a walk we see her. She is the sweetest little morsel you'll ever meet. For the longest time I called her Muffin Top because she is so sweet and of course muffin tops are the best thing about a muffin. I finally met her owner and learned her name is Chocolate. Very apropos, let me tell you.

This little puppy probably weighs about 5 lbs. She is about the size of my Pitbull's head.  I snapped a couple of shots so you could see the size difference.

Zachary adores this little piece of fluff. He waits by the gate when we walk by, his tail wagging in anticipation, his sad eyes looking from me to the yard, in hopes she'll run around from the backyard and say hi. She wiggles and squirms and can't get close enough and he kisses her through the fence. They are quite the pair. (My Border Collie, Liz, puts up with it only because she's smart enough to know that Chocolate won't be going home with us and she gets Zach to herself once we leave.) Chocolate is actually a bit of a hussy...she puts her butt to the fence so Zachary can get his sniffs in. I've tried to tell her a lady doesn't do that sort of thing, but she just squirms more and wags harder. (Hey...I tried.) Here's a shot of Zach giving her a big wet one through the fence.

My point of all this is that love knows no bounds. Though Zachary and Chocolate are not compatible at all, it doesn't keep them from wanting to be together. They cry for each other and Zachary pulls to get to her house every day. It's love at its purest.

I guess that's why I love writing romance. I get such joy watching these two fawn all over each other that it makes me want to go home and write a good romance. I want people to get that same feeling while reading one of my books. I think I also want to incorporate a puppy romance in an upcoming book. I wrote a dog in Dangerously Close and got great feedback so I'm thinking the next time I write a dog, I need to give him/her a love interest.

What about you? Any furry romances you can share?

I love the puppy friendship (or is it starcrossed love?).

My sister is coming for a visit soon and bringing her Pomeranian, who I believe weighs 5-7 pounds sopping wet. Anticipating with interest how Beatrice is going to get along with my eating-disordered, 22 pound cat, Metaphor.

I've had cats & dogs be the best of friends before, but this'll be an interesting matchup.

Great post. My Nikki (over 100 lbs of Akita dog) was in love with a pure blck chihuaha (sp) named Elvis. They walked together twice a day and it was hilarious to watch them greet each other.

I've seen the same thing happen between the very nervous dog we occasionally pet sit and our very nervous cat. Opposites on the outside, but inside...they are perfect for each other. :)

Love the pictures and the story. I'm thrilled your dog has found a crush, but then poor Zach has to go back to being henpecked by Elizabeth.

Milo - my terrier mix loves his canine cousin Maxie who weighs about sixty pounds more than he does. But that doesn't keep them from "rastlin" like they're the same size. Milo likes to pretend he's big and bad.

Hi Robin,
I thought it was pretty cute, too. LOL. Glad I snapped a couple of shots.

Hi Beverly,
I'll be dying to hear how Beatrice and Metaphor get along. I'm already smiling just thinking about it.

Hi Robena,
Nikki was such a great dog. She was so beautiful! Loved her. I didn't know she had the hots for a Chihuahua! That's too funny! Bet that was so sweet...

Hi J,
I'm always surprised when cats befriend dogs. I can understand a dog wanting to befriend a cat because Zach always wants to, but the cats always run away too fast because of his size...and maybe it's his approach...uhm... and his size. LOL. I guess a cat whose never been attacked would have no problem with it. Glad your cat found a kindred soul.

Hi Lynne,
I love when you post pics of Milo and Max! They are so cute together! Don't worry...Zach does love his henpecking soul mate. LOL.

Hi Dee - So cute! Pet owners really know how to write animals in their story. We know how HUMAN they really are. I'm writing a dog in my present story inspired by my first childhood dog, Charger.

Hi Charlene,
I love the name Charger! Sounds like a great dog. I had fun writing Roamer in the Dangerously Close. He was a cross between my old dog, Sam and my new dog Zach. Pet owners DO know how human our furry friends are! That is so true!

Awwww, too cute! My sister-in-law has a teeny tiny dog like that. His name is Nixon and he's a quivering mass of glee whenever he sees anyone paying any attention. :)

We have cats at our house. Four of them, after adopting 2 this summer. They keep life interesting.

Hi Anne Marie,
Yeah, that's actually a good description of Chocolate...a quivering mass of glee. LOL. Wish I wasn't so allergic to cats. They seem to like me and I can't really touch them or I'll die. Okay, not really, but it feels like it! Too bad all the cats in my neighborhood are afraid of Zach. Of course, Liz would make a meal out of them, so It's good that they keep their distance!! I'll bet four cats are very entertaining!

So cute about your big dog and his teeny-tiny girlfriend. I love books where an animal is featured. You can really get a feel for the main characters in the book by how they treat this animal.

Dee J. said...

Hi Jana,
Haha...yeah, they're pretty stinkin' cute. LOL. He was very sad that he didn't see her this morning. He stood at the gate and waited and waited... Poor guy. And, yes, I love relationships between H/H and their pets. Shows a lot about our characters.

Super cute pictures and story! Our neighbor's golden retriever Chauncey is a taken with our Chihuahua Bebe, but she just wants to bark and him and tell him what to do. I have to tell him, "Chaunce...you can do better."

I too appreciate the relationships between H/h's and their pets, and what it reveals about the person. Hayson Manning just did an awesome job with this in "Winning the Boss's Heart." You could see the hero thawing out and becoming a human being again just by watching him interact with the heroine's dog.

Hi Samanthe,
Too funny!! What is it with barking Chihuahuas? There's one a few houses down from Chocolate and he hates my dogs. Barks and rants as we walk by. I call him Killer, but have no clue what his name is. I love when we get to watch the characters grow as they interact with animals. I'll have to find "Winning the Boss's Heart." Thanks!

How cute is that? I once dated a guy who had hair on the back and chest as in hair suit, does that count for furry romances?

Dee J. said...

Hi Rita,
LMAO!! Hell, it SHOULD count!! You are too funny. I only hope he found someone to wax him. On the bright side... he probably didn't shed as bad as a cat or dog. (At least I hope not...)

Aww, so cute! My Casanova of a Chihuahua, Mochi, has two ladies. My mom's dog (female), Steve, and our cousins' dog Chanel. I don't think either of his girls know about the other, so you didn't hear it from me.

Dee J. said...

Hi Kate,
LOL. Wait...did you say the female's name is Steve? Interesting...very interesting. Hey, remember when Liz tried to eat Mochi? Yeah... not a good moment. She hasn't changed. She pretends everything is fine until she snaps. Lucky Mochi, BTW. Haha. And my lips are sealed!!

That's so cute. Our puppy has her friends she sees during our walks, but she's always happy to continue with her daily explorations.

Dee J. said...

Hi Shelley,
Yeah, after a few minutes, Zach is ready to go and I'm the one still loving on Chocolate through the fence. LOL. He's just so cute when he sees her initially. He pounces on his front legs with his butt in the air and his tail wagging. Priceless.

puppy love is just a really frequent knowledge in the act of rising up,and the one who happily offers"I am by no means up for holds to perform such as for instance a infatuated pet dog...More than picked asinine women or guys may properly be cycling meant for a fall. The thing of addition can be quite a look, but the time may more over be utilized to spell out the fondness of a kid meant for a grown-up,meant for example, pupils being attracted with their educators, their buddies'parents,or young ones to parent superstars
