The Twins

So, what is the first thing you think of when you see the word, twins? Females? Males? Breasts? (C'mon, admit it... some of us do consider the girls on our chest twins...but I digress.)

Twins. My dad is a twin and his mom was a twin. I have lots of cousins who are twins. (Thankfully, I did not give birth to twins as I don't think it's in my genetic makeup to handle the double trouble.)

Anyway, the reason I bring it up is because I met two nineteen year old twins a few weeks ago. They happen to be Abercrombie and Fitch models. They also happen to be PERFECT for the hero I'm about to write. Please excuse the poor picture. Photography is not my strong suit. This picture doesn't do these boys justice at all. (As you can tell they are fun and not shy around a camera.) Luckily, the hero of my upcoming book is young and either one of these two young men could be the cover model. They are Josh and Caleb Pryor and if you find them on FaceBook, you will be amazed at the ABsolutely fabulous abs that await your viewing pleasure. All that is well and good, but the BEST thing about these boys is that they are funny, nice and totally adorable. (I found myself wondering if one of them might wait a few years for my daughter to catch up...)

I'll admit to utilizing twins in my book, Dangerous Race. I guess the twin factor in my own house had me thinking that the scenario wasn't so far-fetched. Twins were a commonality in my family so writing about them seemed natural.

So, how about you? Any twin action in your family? Or twin action that happened outside your family? (Nothing like a little twin fantasy every now and then!) Have you ever thought of what having twins on the cover of your book might do for sales?

I had twin aunts on my mother's side of the family. One passed about two years ago and they always had an incredible bond. I found it interesting that one married, the other didn't, but they lived their entire lives in the same house.

No twins in my family. We're all one of a kind!

Love it! I wanted to name my son Joshua Caleb. ; ) No twins in our family. Whew! But my best friend in high school and I always wanted to date twins.

No twins in my family either (other than the imaginary one in my head). But I always loved the idea of switching places with someone who looked just like me. I wrote a story called "Substitute Stripper" which featured a heroine who had an identical twin!

Hi Robena,
Wow! Your aunts lived together their whole lives! That's amazing. My Dad and uncle are 88 and living in the same retirement facility. I think the old ladies get a kick out of them. Thanks for coming by!

Hi Kathy,
One of kind is good too. Thanks for dropping in.

Hi Shawna,
I think my mom felt like she married twins because my uncle was around so much. She got a note in her Cracker Jack box that said be careful of red-headed twins. (Yep, they were red-heads!) Thanks for commenting!

Hi, Samanthe,
My first book had identical twins too. I think my Dad and uncle must have inspired me and I didn't realize it. Substitute Stripper... sounds sexy!! Thanks for stopping in!

No twins anywhere near me, family or otherwise. Which is too bad, really, because I'd love to have been a twin.

In another lifetime, I suppose!

Hi Christine,
Yep, it certainly is a built in best friend for life. The twins in the pic are very close. They finished each other's sentences. My Dad and uncle were very tight for years as well, with a little bit of the love/hate thing. But they always knew they had each other no matter what. It's a cool bond. Thanks for dropping by!

There are fraternal twins running through my ancestry. I’ve never been interested in the twin fantasy. Too distracting. I do have a couple spooky stories about twins and one really creepy one about identical triplets. Girls. One was pure evil even the other two were afraid of her. Eww! Gives me the whillies thinking about them.

I have cousins who are twins (one girl, one boy), but otherwise they don't run in our family. (And I'm glad none of my kiddos turned out to be twins - yikes.)

Hadn't thought about writing twins - your concept sounds like it'll make a fun book. :)

Hi Rita,
OMG! The one triplet sounds freaky!! Perfect for Holloween. LOL. I've got a great story from my Dad and uncle. They used to work at different shoe stores that were located side by side. Women used to think the same guy was running between stores via a back door. LOL.

Hi Anne Marie,
After I wrote the post, I realized that my first Carina book does have twins. (Clearly I've been working too hard to miss incorporating that into the first draft. LOL. But I added it!) I've written twins into another book as well. I guess it's in my blood. I purposely stopped after one kid. I KNEW I was going to have twins if I kept going and I wasn't prepared for 3 kids. LOL. Thanks for dropping in!

No twins in my family, but my siblings and I grew up with twin girls as neighbours. They were identical except that I could always tell them apart because one twin had more freckles than the other.

Dee J. said...

Hi Marcelle,
I couldn't tell my father and uncle apart unless I saw what my dad was wearing when he left in the morning. Otherwise... no way. They loved to tease everybody. As far as I know, my mom (aside from their parents) was the only one who knew them instantly. (Good thing, right?) I could tell the twins in the blog pic apart because Caleb has a little freckle/birthmark on his cheek. Thanks for coming by!

I confess. Shirley Wells is my twin.

Lots of twins in my family on both sides. The thing that always amazed me was the fact it was only recently people got advance warning. My fraternal aunt had twins and it was literally, 'hang on a minute, there's another one!'
Three of my friends all had twins around the same time I had my kids. I can't even begin to imagine how they coped!

Dee J. said...

Hi Maureen,
LMAO! You are too funny. Um... is Shirley aware of this? Haha.

Hi Toni,
I'm with you... can't imagine it. I can see how it would cool on one level, but on another level... totally out of my realm of comprehension. LOL.

No twins in my family either, but I love hearing about the sneaky stuff twins can get away with. ;)

Dee J. said...

Hi Robin,
I think one of the most dangerous things in the world might be a set of twins with a sense of humor. LOL. (Like my dad and his bro.) I'm sure it's probably awesome to have a built in best friend, but as a parent, I couldn't imagine the work involved in the younger years. (I'm a big chicken. Haha.) Thanks for stopping in!

I've got twins in my Lexi Carmichael series!! My grandfather was a twin, too. And Maureen, I thought you were MY twin? :) Great post, Dee!

I have no twins in my family - well, except Gladys, but you all know her. We're identical, apart from the voice. She can sing. I can't. :)

I love reading twin stories. The strong bond between twins always fascinates me.
