NOT YOUR USUAL SUSPECTS

A group blog featuring an international array of killer mystery, suspense, and romantic suspense writers. With premises and story lines different from your run-of-the-mill whodunits, we tend to write outside the box. We blog several times a week on all topics relating to romantic suspense and mystery, our writing, and our readers. We welcome all comments and often have guest bloggers. All our authors can be contacted separately, too, using their own social media links.

We find our genre delightfully, dangerously, and deliciously exciting - join us here, if you do too!

NOTE: the blog is currently dormant but please enjoy the posts we're keeping online.

Welcome to 'Not Your Usual Suspects' Blog

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me …a super cool, hip new blog to share with fans, family and friends!

Welcome to our new blog run by a group of seasoned and debut authors of romantic suspense and mystery. We’re an eclectic group with diverse interests and a thrilling range of stories including procedural, humorous, sexy, nail-biting, romantic and cozy. For the next twelve days leading up to Christmas, each one of us will blog on a topic near and dear to our hearts. After that, we’ll be blogging three days a week, offering you interviews, freebies, writing insights, thoughts on the different sub-genres within mystery and romantic suspense, and tidbits from our past and forthcoming novels. Take a minute and peruse our bios, current novels and forthcoming releases. Several of us also have audio books available for your listening enjoyment.

To start things off, I’m interested in finding out what romantic suspense or mystery books were your favorites in 2010. I’m always on the lookout for new authors to read and I love to give books as presents for Christmas. I’m hoping one of you will suggest something perfect I can buy as a last minute present. As a thank you, I will randomly choose one winner from the comments to win a copy of my latest novel, No One Lives Twice, a humorous cyber-sleuthing mystery caper released by Carina Press in August 2010.

Here are a few of my favorite romantic suspense/mystery reads for 2010: Fantasy in Death and Indulgence in Death by J.D. Robb, The First Rule by Robert Crais, The Neighbor by Lisa Gardner, In Plain View by J. Wachowski (one of the bloggers on this site – woot!) and Ice Cold by Tess Gerritsen. What great mystery and romantic suspense book(s) did you read this year that you would wholeheartedly recommend?

Thanks for stopping by and we hope to see a lot of you in the next year. Happy Holidays to all!

I also loved Lisa Gardner's THE NEIGHBOR, I enjoyed Karen Rose's KILL FOR ME, and I just finished Laura Griffin's UNTRACEABLE which was really enjoyable. I'm waiting for Santa to bring me an ereader and hope to reader all my fellow Carina Press authors. Can't wait!

I admit that I am a Nora Roberts-aholic, and just read and enjoyed THE SEARCH.

I'm looking forward to hearing the wit and wisdom of this diverse ensemble! I'm bound to become another author-aholic here :)

I thoroughly enjoyed fellow Carina Press author J. Wachowski's IN PLAIN VIEW too. Another great mystery from Carina Press is Elise Warner's SCENE STEALER.
I've just finished THE SEX CLUB by L. J. Sellers and can recommend that one. I couldn't put it down.
Hmm ... I hope Santa is selecting a few good mysteries for me to read over the holiday!

I have so little time to read, but treated myself over the summer to a bunch of J.D. Robb books on my TBR pile. Looking forward to this blog!

For a bio with a good deal of mystery and romance and a queen that really didn't look like Elizabeth Taylor, read Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff. May be purchased as an eBook.

I've been reading a lot of 40s noir lately -- Chandler, Hammett, Howard E. Browne. Great stuff and somehow it just seems perfect for the holiday season.

Congratulations on the new blog. Looking forward to seeing what you have to offer. :-)

Goodness. I can never pick a favourite book. I've read a few good m/m mysteries this past year I'm sure. I must have. LOL My brain zones out. I really liked In the Flesh by Ethan Stone. I also really liked Nicole Kimberling's Baby It's Cold Outside (note to self - get next book in series soon).

The only mystery that I've read this year is Heather Graham's Unhallowed Ground. It wasn't my favorite though. I'm currently reading Raeliksen by Renee Vincent. Halfway through and I love it so far. I love all of the suggestions so far. I just put them on my wish list!

I've only read one e-book so far on my spiffy new e-reader, and it was Toni Anderson's Sea of Suspicion. Excellent read and highly recommended.

As for my favourite, that would have to be Louise Penny's Bury Your Dead, the latest in her Inspector Gamache series. Wonderful writer, great story.

All of the Carina Press authors books look fantastic - can't wait to dig into them! My first taste of romantic suspense books were written by Phyllis Whitney, Mary Stewart, and Georgette Hyer. Of course, after that, I was hooked but big time.

What a terrific blog post! I'm loving all the romantic suspense/mysteries Carina has published this year. They are wonderful reads and I can't recommend them highly enough. Mine included :-)

I've been catching up with all the J.D. Robb's books over the last couple of weeks, and I'm also reading the Firefighters of Station Five series by Jo Davis. So many terrific books, only 24 hours in a day--Need more time to read.

The blog looks awesome!! Well done! I don't have any recommendations for books at the moment. However, I'm looking forward to reading several of the Carina Press RS books!

I love this blog and I intend to be a frequent visitor. As far as favorites are concerned, Lina Howard's Heat is one I read recently and loved, as I do all of hers. Another is Cry No More, which is from a few years ago. I reread that one quite often - it's now dog-eared.

I also found an author new to me that I love a great deal. It's Alice Kimberly (Cleo Coyle) and she is writing a haunted bookshop mystery series in which the protagonist solves crimes with the ghost of a P.I. mudered in the 1940's. As the series goes on, she seems to be falling in love with him. Other than that, I couldn't begin to name all the mystery and RS authors I absolutely crave. Now that I've read this blog, I intend to read yours.

Oh, great suggestions. I (belatedly) discovered Jayne Ann Krentz this year and am happily working my way through her backlist. Dana Stabenow's "A Night Too Dark" is sitting top of my TBR pile, waiting for Christmas and a chance to kick back and enjoy some Alaskan snow and ice as I swelter through a hot Aussie summer.

Wow, what great suggestions from everyone.

Thanks to Josh for reminding me of Chandler and Hammett. Rereading those over the holiday would be a real treat.

Thanks too to Pauline and Tom Foolery for their kind words about my books. (The cheques are in the post! ;))
