I worked real hard at getting across the point that readers have to connect with the characters. They either have to hate them or love them. Like Toni said characters are a key to the story but their internal and external conflicts are what makes the book. No conflict – who cares. I'm bookmarking this so I can refer anyone who asks me about character building to it.
Thanks again and sorry about being so late to the party but real life has been giving me fits.Ritahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09054306874904898496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7545210782126483136.post-72720897882696010162012-04-16T12:13:50.165-07:002012-04-16T12:13:50.165-07:00Elise, you sound like you have your hands full!

I HATED all the stress and turmoil that came with...a plot. :-D

I've finally worked through it. Now I save the peace and harmony for my real life. ;-)Josh Lanyonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11944091956589831656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7545210782126483136.post-42387423484293442602012-04-16T11:09:09.946-07:002012-04-16T11:09:09.946-07:00Late commenting, Josh. Thoroughly enjoyed your post.Elise Warnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12111849185666548945noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7545210782126483136.post-37088947379181451602012-04-15T16:27:14.653-07:002012-04-15T16:27:14.653-07:00I really think characterization is the 'key...I really think characterization is the 'key' to and good story. And you are so right about not wanting the bad things to happen to those we identify with too closely. I always solve their problems and the book is done by chapter 3. Then I go back and mess up their lives. Great post, Josh. My link thingy isn't working well so I've only tweeted, not shared anywhere else yet.
I'll get there :)Toni Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08348843511453338339noreply@blogger.com
